Everyone was saying Michelle Yeoh should have gotten an Oscar nomination but Gemma Chan was the real stand out performance in Crazy Rich Asians.

Annihilation is probably the most underrated film of the year.

It should’ve swept the season and it would’ve been deserved. Not whatever we’ve been given this year.

These achievements were among the best of the year and should have been more strongly embraced by the awards circuit:

    Picture

    Can You Ever Forgive Me?
    Sorry to Bother You
    Hereditary
    A Private Life
    Love, Simon
    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
    First Reformed
    Tully
    First Man

    Director

Marielle Heller, Can You Ever Forgive Me? (should have been a shoo-in for a Best Director nod)
Boots Riley, Sorry to Bother You
    Tamara Jenkins, A Private Life
    Ari Aster, Hereditary
    Damien Chazelle, First Man

    Actress

    Kathryn Hahn, A Private Life
    Charlize Theron, Tully
    Toni Collette, Hereditary
    Keira Knightley, Colette
    Joanna Kulig, Cold War

    Actor

    Ethan Hawke, First Reformed
    Ryan Gosling, First Man
Lakeith Stanfield, Sorry to Bother You

    Supporting Actress

    Rachel McAdams, Disobedience
    Sakura Ando, Shoplifters
    Kayli Carter, A Private Life
    Millicent Simmonds, A Quiet Place
    Mackenzie Davis, Tully

    Supporting Actor

    Alex Wolff, Hereditary
Armie Hammer, Sorry to Bother You
    Michael B. Jordan, Black Panther
    Daniel Kaluuya, Widows

Also, I would have wanted The Tale to get an awards-qualifying silver screen run. It’s a masterpiece of a film and a unique directorial achievement for Jennifer Fox.

It’s definitely Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place. Only SAG recognized her and that’s a shame.

Everything about The Hate U Give is underrated.

In my opinion, Crazy Rich Asians is highly overrated. I know it didn’t gain much award traction but it doesn’t deserve much love either.

Lady Gaga (A Star is Born) should win best actress
